1st Year of MMUS-DONE! WOO!!
April 28, 2009
I am about to drive into Western to pass in my last paper, and bring back a zillion library books. This is the final official drive into the university until September!! I don’t know what to do now. I am in limbo, I am waiting to hear whether I got into the Michigan summer program so I can’t start preparing. AND Colorado hasn’t sent me a rep list for their symposium so I can’t score study for that either.
I am going to finish a small project that I started last fall and then I am going to begin reading Ed Lisk’s Creative Teacher Leader.
I kind of want to go and party but that will have to wait for now.

April 12, 2009
Sorry Folks!!! What a year!!! The school year just ate my time!!!! I will try to update you regularly on what is going on in my life. Here is the Coles Notes version of the year.
Professionally
- Conducted at the UWO conducting symposium for Gary Hill. He was amazing, and I do not hesitate to say that I would love to study with him in the future.
- Conducted at the York conducting symposium for Richard Blatti. This went well, although he had no specific information to give me on how to further my technique. That being said, I am sure he would have A LOT to offer if we had more than 12 minutes to spend together.
- Conducted 2 groups. The UWO symphonic band was the first group where I conducted Dusk by Steve Bryant, and Punchinello by Alfred Reed, and the UWO wind ensemble where I conducted Country Gardens, Arr. by Percy Grainger, and Circus Polka by Stravinsky.
- I conducted the Lab orchestra for student orchestrations, and the London Youth Orchestra for a few rehearsals.
- I was a TA for the first year conducting class. WOW!! what a learning experience.
- I took classes in score analysis, wind literature, private conducting lessons, research techniques, wind ensemble (playing the horn), and Symphonic band (again, playing the horn).
- Next year I have to take: Research Seminar, Conducting Seminar, Conducting Lessons, Ensemble, and one other elective
- I am going to audition for DMA programs at the end of this degree,..Yikes!
- I was accepted into the CBDNA conducting symposium in Colorado, and I am waiting to see if I got into one in Michigan.
To be continued,……
